On Saturday, November
5th, the Skinner Road Airport Community Association (SRACA)
hosted its annual open house for the people in our community. This event
gives our neighbors the opportunity to learn about aviation, the
airport, and meet the people who fly and live here.
Drinks and hot dogs were provided, the weather was just about
perfect (although a little windy!) and we had record breaking
crowds. Seemed like everyone turned out! There were free airplane rides for children 8-17 (with parental signature)
through the EAA Young
Eagle Program plus many Static Displays with several warbirds to
see.
A record 53 Young Eagle flights were set for us! A new addition this
year was the stuffed animal drop for the younger children not
eligible for airplane rides. A local helicopter took up a huge bag
of stuffed animals and dropped them while the children scrambled to
collect them. Very popular with the kids, it will undoubtedly become
an regular part of our open house. |

Pink Flamingo Fly-in
On
Saturday, April 2nd, one of our more 'colorful' residents hosted what we
hope will become an annual event. The Pink Flamingo Fly-in. So named
because of several of the more immovable plastic ones have taken up
residence in his yard. The weather turned out to be one of those
days we can count on one hand here in south Texas, moderate temps, sunny,
and clear smooth skys (no clouds, no haze, no turbulence!) The turn
out was fantastic, many nice planes, and the food and drink was good
too! All and all, a wonderful day at Dry Creek. Click on the
